In January of 2020, I heard of the Forrest Fenn treasure. This treasure undoubtedly changed my life. Like so many others, I spent days, weeks, and maybe even months researching and dreaming of being the one that finally cracked the code. In May of 2020, I thought this dream might come to fruition. An extraordinary close call and epic adventure set me up for the biggest disappointment that I have ever experienced. The treasure was found - and not by me. After 10 years of being hidden, the treasure was recovered by someone else within days of finding the coveted “Blaze”.

The disappointment affected me in an unexpected way. Of course, I was sad about not finding the treasure, but what was unexpected was the disappointment from the quest being over. I loved the planning, the research, the many many misguided adventures, and the comradery with other treasure hunters. I was hooked. What I did not yet know was that this disappointment allowed me to discover the real treasure: Open Season.

Together, my friend and I have worked for years to bring this idea to life to provide this same experience to our users. Our goal is to provide individuals with a new desire to get outside. We’ve designed an app to take you out of your phone, and into the woods. We want to see families have a source of entertainment that is loved by both kids and adults. We want to see individuals trade in doom scrolling for traveling and exploring. We want communities to be built around treasure hunting. We want to see the lives of others improved by what we are offering.

After all, the real treasure is the journey.
